The „Fedra“ Foundation for Helping Children is a local NGO established in 1997 in Zrenjanin (Vojvodina). Its founder and the only authorized representative is Dragan Stajic. Its mission is to enable the undisturbed growth of children in central Banat. According to the goal it organizes humanitarian activities and activities that affect the development of the local society. To name some of our most important partners: IRD (USA), BCIF (UK) and the Maltese Humanitarian Organization. In July 2002 the Radio Broadcasting law was passed in Serbia which enabled NGOs to establish and own electronic media. By that time Dragan Stajic owned radio «Fedra» by his firm Ltd «Fedra». It was the only media in the Central Banat region that had been forbidden and its equipment taken away by the regime of Milosevic («Blic», 20th March 2000). After the fall of Milosevic's regime, in which some people from radio «Fedra» had taken part in, the radio station continued to broadcast. In September 2002 d.o.o. «Fedra» donated the radio station to the Foundation «Fedra» and so it became the first NGO in the country with its own electronic media. The only condition asked by the donator was that the radio station continues to broadcast a programme that helps the development of the local society.
Radio FEDRA. FEDRA Foundation broadcasts a radio program with a program scheme that is based on the affirmation of the following:
- civilian consciousness
- market economy
- independent journalism (news desk and program is broadcast in the following languages: Hungarian, Romanian, Slovakian, Roma, German, Hebrew, and Serbian)
- working with children and young people
The multilingual, informative and special program is supported so far by several secretary departments of Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Municipality of Zrenjanin and the Ministry of Culture and Media. Radio Fedra is unique media in the whole country because it has direct contacts with more than 3000 artists from all over the world that support the music program with their music materials. Their personal interest in our country, media and journalism represents unique link between our district and their own countries. We can say that this is the only radio station in this part of Europe that has an exclusively promotional character with its music contents. |
